Chouchou x Benoît Castel King's Cake

Epiphany in Paris: Le Chouchou’s exclusive King’s Cake, created by Benoît Castel

On Epiphany, Le Chouchou reaffirms its identity more than ever: here, the galette des rois is best enjoyed at Le Chouchou, a restaurant with a quintessentially French soul and the atmosphere of an urban guinguette in Paris’s 9th arrondissement, in a lively and welcoming setting that stays true to the spirit of the house. Located just a stone’s throw from the Opéra Garnier, between the Madeleine and the department stores (Galeries Lafayette and Printemps), Le Chouchou remains an unmissable gathering spot. To celebrate this iconic January tradition, Le Chouchou relies on the expertise of Benoît Castel, who has created an exclusive galette des rois designed specifically for the hotel.

Throughout the month of January, every weekend, Le Chouchou’s galette des rois is served during brunch. You can’t take it to go—this creation is meant to be shared right there, around the large tables, beneath the light-filled glass roof.

Benoît's Galette des Rois stays true to tradition. It is made using the "inverted puff pastry" technique, a challenging process that involves wrapping the dough in butter. The result: a galette that is crispier, lighter, and melts in your mouth.

A woman with long hair is painting small clay pieces at a wooden table, with brushes nearby.

Inside, the frangipane has a rich, velvety texture that combines almond cream and Madagascar vanilla. An authentic, indulgent recipe you won't find anywhere else.

To complement this exclusive galette des rois, each slice hides a handcrafted figurine designed by ceramic artist Flore Faucheux. Eight handmade designs, created as true collector’s items, make the Epiphany experience at Le Chouchou even more special.

True to its playful spirit, Le Chouchou adds a surprise to the tradition: a winning bean shaped like a roast chicken. Whoever finds it will win a night in one of the hotel’s suites, with brunch included. The perfect way to extend the Chouchou experience.
